First, let’s get through the semantics.  Etsy gives you two major places where you can write “about you”.  There is the the “About” under shop profile or there is the “About” under shop info.  Are you thoroughly confused yet?  It is ok if you are, we are going to fix that.  The key thing to remember when it comes to the About page is it gives you a chance to tell your story!

Here’s the big difference, your About Page is all about you and who you are and your public profile is more about your store than you.  It’s a small difference and many of those things on your About Page may actually overlap in this about section of your public profile.

Today we are going to focus on your About Page…It’s all about YOU!

The Etsy About Page is a blank canvas with no word limits.  It is meant to foster creative community, so go ahead an be yourself!  I know it’s scary but honestly your about page is just like your product descriptions, only you aren’t selling a product, you are selling you! Go ahead and tell people

  1. WHO you are
  2. WHERE you came from
  3. WHAT the business means to you
  4. WHY they should trust you
  5. HOW you can help them

While they want to know about you, they want to know what you can do for them. How can you make them happier, richer, or more productive? Which problems can you take away? Which challenges can you help overcome?

You can accomplished the aforementioned by writing your about page in 5 major steps:

  1. The Headline
  2. A Bit About Yourself
  3. What You Can Do For Them
  4. Adding Photos
  5. Sharing Other Social Sites

We want people to read our About Page so what can we do to get our message across?

  • Use short sentences
  • Use short paragraphs of no more than 3 to 4 sentences
  • Use bullet points when possible
  • Use headlines to break up major section
  • Use all of the photo slots

Finally to set and edit your About page go to: Your Shop > Info & Appearance and locate the About tab at the top of the page. You can also edit this section from the Shop Tools bar at the top of your storefront.
