The topic of this months discussion was supposed to be in depth dive into your shop and critique them.  This was scheduled such that when we entered the Christmas market timeframe the shops would have had time to correct the major flaws of the shops.  Well, the beautiful thing about getting people together is that sometimes there are other topics of discussions that come up, something that seems more imminent.

So we talked about Community!

If you are a seller on Etsy, you know that there are many opportunities to join Teams.  They range from regional teams to teams related to a specific craft.  The number of teams continues to grow every day, all you need is a willing leader.

One of the members inquired why I was the leader of the New Mexy Etsy Team.  First and foremost, let me just say there is no glory in being a leader, I don’t get paid and I certainly go through many frustrations.  There have been several times which I have considered just quitting.  Unfortunately, I am stubborn and I believe in the power of community and do want to create a place that artist of New Mexico can create and learn together.  I think this quote sums it up nicely.

I would argue that curiosity is not the most important human trait—the urge to collaborate is. Only we have the ability to cooperate, to make online communities and space telescopes and imaginariums and movies, so the great thrill of this whole experience is seeing humanity do what I think it’s best at, which is not competing, it’s cooperating.

I am slowly trying to increase the value of the team, here is what I am working on right now:

  1. Posting consistently on the Facebook page
  2. Posting new products on our Pinterest group
  3. Posting new products on Twitter

I still want to continue making the community valuable so I created a survey to get feedback from people so go ahead and take 12 minutes and .
